Mahama launches flagbearership campaign in V/R today

The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the decision of the former President, John Dramani Mahama, and a presidential aspirant of the party, to launch his campaign in the region was apt, and had rejuvenated political activities of the party in the region.

The Regional Secretariat indicated in a press statement, signed and made available to the media by the Regional Secretary, Mr. James Gunu, that the choice of the aspirant to launch his campaign in the Volta Region was welcomed, as he could, through planned campaign activities, marshal some reasonable votes at the pending primaries of the party.

The statement said Mr. Mahama would launch his campaign for the 2024 flagbearership contest at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at Sokode today, Thursday 2, 2024, and would immediately embark on a tour of the 18 constituencies of the region.

According to the statement, the NDC presidential hopeful would also take advantage of his presence in the region to pay his last respects to the late Paramount Chief of the Ziope Traditional Area and former member of the Council of State, Togbe Bina Lawluvi VI.

The statement continued that delegates, including former appointees, members of the Professional Forum, the Council of Elders, allies of the party, including youth groups, and sympathisers of the NDC should make themselves available to meet the flagbearer aspirant of the party.

In an exclusive interview later, Mr. Gunu said the members and supporters of the NDC were expecting Mr. Mahama to make his intentions known as to whether he would contest for the flag bearer position and now that this decision has been made, the members and his supporters in the region were happy.
