President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has resumed processing crude oil into petroleum products for the first time since 2018.

Delivering his ongoing State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament, the President disclosed that the refinery’s new management had successfully completed extensive turnaround maintenance, paving the way for the restart of operations.

“I am pleased to inform this House that for the first time since 2018, the Tema Oil Refinery has commenced processing crude oil into petroleum products again,” President Mahama stated.

He described the development as a major milestone in the government’s efforts to revive the energy sector and restore critical national assets to full productivity.

The President assured Ghanaians that reforms in the energy sector remain on course, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to strengthening the sector’s foundations and ensuring reliable, affordable and sustainable energy security.

“The energy sector reforms continue unabated. I remain fully committed to turning around the sector, strengthening its foundations, and ensuring reliable, affordable and sustainable energy security for our nation,” he stressed.

The resumption of crude processing at TOR is expected to ease pressure on fuel imports, enhance energy security and improve efficiency within the downstream petroleum industry.

The announcement was met with applause from Members of Parliament, as government moves to reposition the refinery as a strategic pillar of Ghana’s energy architecture. For more news, join The Chronicle Newspaper channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbBSs55E50UqNPvSOm2z
