Toussaint Afodolo, a 20-year-old Engineering Student at the University of Ghana (UG), has been charged with robbery and conspiracy, following his appearance before the Dansoman Circuit Court on Monday, September 16, 2024. Toussaint Afodolo has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court, presided over by Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, granted Toussaint Afodolo bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, residing within the jurisdiction. Toussaint Afodolo is being tried alongside two other UG students, Joshua Kwabena Nyador, 22, and Wisdom Ayekpe, 23. Joshua Kwabena Nyador and Wisdom Ayekpe had their initial court appearance on September 9, 2024 where they also pleaded not guilty. They were granted bail set at GH¢1 million each, with two sureties required for each.

Toussaint Afodolo was not present during the earlier hearing. The charges against Toussaint, Joshua and Wisdom stem from an alleged robbery on July 12, 2024 in East Legon-Mempeasem, in the Greater Accra Region. According to Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah, the suspects allegedly approached the complainant and her friend in a white Toyota Corolla Spider, brandishing a pistol.

The robbers stole the complainant’s iPhone XR, valued at GH¢2,800 and other personal items. Following the robbery, the suspects reportedly withdrew GH¢175 from the complainant’s mobile money account and used the stolen iPhone XR to access and download explicit content from her social media pages.

Joshua then allegedly contacted the complainant, threatening to release the images unless she paid him GH¢5,000. The complainant reported the incident to the police on August 17, 2024. Joshua was apprehended the same day and reportedly confessed to the robbery and
threats, implicating Wisdom, Toussaint and Stanley as accomplices.

Wisdom, who was arrested on August 19, 2024 denied any involvement in the crime. The case remains under investigation, with the next court hearing scheduled for November 25, 2024.
