Kwabena Boateng elected Ejisu parliamentary candidate

A private legal practitioner, Kwabena Boateng, has beaten eight other persons who competed in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary held at Ejisu on April 13 to become the parliamentary candidate.

The contestants in last Saturday’s NPP primary included former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Dr. Evans Duah, Klinsman Karikari Mensah, Helena Mensah, Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey, Portia Baffoe Abronye, Aaron Prince Duah and Yaa Gyamera Aboagye.

Kwabena Boateng secured 394 votes out of a total of 1033 valid votes cast, according to the Electoral Commission.

He was closely trailed by Madam Helena Mensah who had 302 votes.

Yaa Gyamera Aboagye got 229 votes, whilst former GFA boss Lawyer Kwesi Nyantakyi managed a miserable 35 votes.

The rest are Dr. Evans Duah (61 votes), Kinsman Karikari Mensa (2 votes); Abena Pokuaa Amoah-Boaitey (0); Portia Acheampong (6 votes); Aaron Prince Duah (2 votes).

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, who is also the Second Vice Chairman of the party in the constituency, is, therefore, set to contest the Ejisu Parliamentary seat in the impending by-election on April 30.

The Ejisu seat became vacant following the demise of the late John Kumah last month after  a short illness.

In a post election address, Mr. Boateng thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and electing him as the NPP parliamentary candidate. He dedicated his victory to the late MP Dr. John Kumah and promised to be a good representative for the Ejisu constituents if voted as MP.
