Rev. Father Eshun Rhule, the Parish priest of St. Dominic Holy Family Catholic Church at Breman Kwantwima, in Kumasi, has expressed worry over the state of the Kumasi Metropolis.
He said the attitude of the residents has turned the city into a big village, characterised by lawlessness and indiscipline among residents.
He said traders who are at the centre of the lawlessness and indiscipline are selling on pavements, contributing to indiscriminate littering on the street and congestion of the city.
The Catholic priest’s worry is premised on the fact that traders who have congested at the Central Business District (CBD) and selling at unauthorised places and on pavements are Christians.
Delivering a sermon at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church at New Tafo, in Kumasi, Rev. Fr. Eshun Rhule entreated Christians to respect authority because every authority comes from God.
He lamented that even the Christians who should be the agent of change to positively contribute to societal transformation are mostly the cause of lawlessness and indiscipline in society.
According to him, there should not be a separation or a gap between Christianity and the socio- political demands, because it is incumbent on Christians to pay taxes to the government, as their quota to development towards good governance. They must also criticize authority constructively when things are not going the right way.
He attributed the situation to hopelessness on the part of the people and urged them to rise up to the challenges and help bring changes in society.
He lamented that lawlessness and indiscipline are all over, yet churches are packed to full capacities on Sundays, amid filth at market places.
The Reverend Father has, therefore, reminded Christians not to be stubborn and challenged them to abide by the laws of the state, stating that corruption and indiscipline must not be considered a normal trend in society, and urged Christians to be faithful to themselves.
