KsTU-IRID, CTVET Launch National Quiz On Garbage Sorting

The Kumasi Technical University’s Institution of Research Innovation and Development (IRID), in partnership with Commission for Technical and Vocational Education (CTVET) and Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), has launched a National Quiz on Sorting and Environmental Sustainability for about 34 Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Ashanti region.

Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of KsTU IRID, explained at the launch that the initiative was aimed at inculcating in the people, through the competition, as to how to embrace the importance of separating waste to benefit their colleagues, households and the environment at the youngest age.

According to him, the project started at the region and would spread nationwide very soon, for the participants to apply their knowledge on how to turn waste to worth. He disclosed that stakeholders, including Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) will continue collaboration with the Municipalities and Districts Assemblies to create a clean environment with chiefs and students as solution bearers, because Ghana needs their creativity.

Abdul -Rahaman Zakaria, Deputy Director General, Corporate Services, Commission for Technical and Vocational Training explained that CTVET is to regulate, promote and administer Technical and Vocational Education in a manner that promotes economic growth to create employment for the people.

He stated that the Commission was committed to the garbage sorting project proposed by KsTU in 2024 and was approved by the commission for which the first tranch of GH¢660.000 for the project was released. He disclosed that the project was in three phases and that the second phase was expected to be rolled out based on the success of the face one.
