The life of the late Kofi Sarfo Assiamah, a respected Ghanaian patriarch whose influence extended across family, professional and social circles, will be celebrated at a three-day funeral ceremony at Denkyira Dominase in the Central Region from October 30 to November 1, 2026.
The funeral is expected to attract a wide cross-section of Ghanaian society, including former presidents, political leaders, traditional authorities, business executives, and members of the clergy, the Masonic fraternity, friends and well-wishers who knew and benefited from the deceased during his lifetime.
Mr. Sarfo Assiamah, father of former Minister of Transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, died peacefully on October 27, 2025, after a short illness. His death marked the end of a life characterized by discipline, service, generosity and a strong commitment to the welfare and advancement of others.
Rather than being remembered only as a family patriarch, Mr. Sarfo Assiamah is being celebrated for the broad impact he made on the lives of people around him.
A life built around service and opportunity
Mr. Sarfo Assiamah’s professional life spanned education, the military, banking and business, with each chapter providing opportunities for him to serve and influence others.
He started his career as a teacher, where he contributed to the education and development of young people. He later joined the Ghana Armed Forces and rose to the rank of Army General.
His career subsequently took him into banking, where he played a pioneering role during the formative years of the Social Security Bank, now Société Générale Ghana. He initially worked as a marketing operative before rising to become Director of the Consumer Credit Department.
He later ventured into business, where he continued to build relationships and create opportunities for those around him. It was, however, his personal generosity and willingness to assist others that became one of the defining features of his life.
His support was not limited to immediate family members. Relatives, friends, acquaintances and people outside his family benefited from his guidance, resources and encouragement.
For many, he became a father figure, mentor and benefactor whose interventions helped them overcome challenges and pursue opportunities they might otherwise have struggled to access.
Among those whose lives were significantly influenced by his benevolence is Charles Kenneth Sarfo, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Pharmaceuticals and his maternal nephew.
The impact of his generosity was such that some beneficiaries went on to name their children after him, reflecting the affection and gratitude they held for a man whose influence extended well beyond his immediate family.
