The Ministry of Communications, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has unveiled a groundbreaking educational platform aimed at revolutionising learning across the nation. The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank, launched in Accra, on Tuesday, this week, marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to modernise its educational system
and align it with international standards.
The portal, developed by Impomtuo Technologies, with support from MTN and funded by the World Bank, provides access to over five million online library archives, learning resources and tools. This initiative positions Ghana as the second country in Africa to
offer such a comprehensive educational resource, following Egypt’s similar platform.
Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, indicated the platform’s advanced features, including its artificial intelligence integration. “The platform not only aligns with the approved curriculum but also includes AI capabilities that enhance learning experiences,” she noted.
“Our system will be the most advanced in Africa, supporting students across all levels and providing valuable resources for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).”
One of the notable features of the Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank is its offline capability, ensuring that users can access the platform even without an active internet connection.
This flexibility is expected to be particularly beneficial in areas with unreliable internet access. In addition to educational resources, the portal will also serve as a marketing platform for Ghanaian publishers, allowing them to upload and sell digital copies of their work that have been certified.
Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, praised the initiative as a significant advancement in Ghana’s education sector. He expressed his frustration at the continued criticism of Ghana’s educational system, emphasising the ongoing transformation and improvements being made. Dr. Adutwum added that the launch of this innovative platform underscores Ghana’s commitment to embracing the fourth industrial revolution and investing in educational
technologies to enhance learning outcomes for students across the country.
“So this is a major innovation that is going to enhance teaching and learning. And the good news is that this is something that you can do offline. If you log in and your internet is not working, you can still interface with the system. It has Artificial Intelligence,” he stressed.
