KMA, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago sign MoU

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for friendly co-operation.

Mr. Samuel Pyne, Mayor of the City of Kumasi, explained that the move was to explore the horizon of development prospects of the Metropolis by tapping into the best practices of some cities, hence, the friendly collaboration with other cities.

According to him, the City of Kumasi, Ghana, was convinced that establishing international relations and cooperation with the City of Port of Spain, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, would offer excellent opportunities to promote development and share best practices between cities.

The Mayor disclosed that the cooperation would take many forms, including public to public partnership, public private partnership, and private to private collaborations to ensure inclusivity and comprehensive development.

He indicated that the potential areas of the cooperation would include culture and tourism promotion, educational exchanges, trade, industry and investment promotion, promotion of international conferencing and events, collaborate and share data, knowledge and best practices for improved service delivery among others.

His Worship, the Mayor, Alderman Joel Martinez, Port of Spain, explained that their Ambassador was in the country in 2019, and had since been visiting for a cordial relationship.

He stated that a delegation would visit for the prestigious carnival in the Trinidad and Tobago to develop sister city collaboration.

According to him, the people of Kumasi would become familiar with Trinidad and Tobago cultural and economic development.

He said they were interested in developing the people and sharing of opportunities for a common purpose towards development.

Mayor Alderman Joel Martinez reiterated that the carnival was meant to educate about the culture of other peoples.
