Kejetia market fire victims have accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of neglect over the years.
They said in spite of the pledges to support them since the March 15, 2023 fire outbreak, nothing had been done to alleviate their plight.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Frank Antwi and Nana Baafuor, leaders of the traders, said the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, visited them shortly after the incident to commensurate with the victims and made some pronouncements, yet none of the pronouncements had been followed to the letter.
According to them, the government had never bothered to know how the victims were surviving till date, and wanted to know the whereabouts of the government support promised by the Vice President to the affected traders.
The traders wondered whether the Vice President cared about the affected traders, adding that, anyone who wanted to be a leader must first serve the people he wanted to lead.
They lamented on the standstill of the phase two of the Kejetia Redevelopment project, while other projects in other parts of the country were ongoing, while those in Ashanti Region were halted, and attributed the situation to the insensitivity of the 47 Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Ashanti Region for not standing up for the development of the region.
They made mention of the Krofrom Market, Komfo Anokye Maternity Block, Afari Military Hospital, Kumawu Hospital, Suame inter-change, Kwabre District roads, Manso District roads, Bosome-Freho and Kwanwoma district roads projects had been halted while the NPP was in government for over six years while the Ashanti MPs and policy makers were sitting aloof unconcerned about the lack of development in a region considered to be the stronghold of the party.
They called on the government to ensure that all the uncompleted projects were completed on time before the 2024 General Elections, else they would advise themselves.
