NPP flagbearer
The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, had earlier urged all aspirants contesting the party’s various national executive positions to accept the outcome of the National Delegates Conference and work together to strengthen the party.
Dr. Bawumia called on candidates who emerge successful to reach out to their opponents, while urging those who lose to support the newly elected national executives.
He said the contests should be viewed as an internal exercise aimed at selecting a group of leaders to serve the broader interests of the party, rather than as a permanent division between competing factions.
John Agyekum Kufuor
Addressing party faithful through a video message, Former President John Agyekum Kufuor urged delegates to elect national executives who could provide effective leadership and help restore public confidence in the party.
The former President also called on members to prioritise unity and democratic principles to choose the party’s next crop of leaders.
He urged delegates to approach the election as an opportunity to strengthen the party’s internal structures and select leaders capable of providing what he described as functional leadership.
“Ghana needs our party to lead it into prosperity and transformation, and that must be the aspiration of all of us,” he noted and appealed to delegates to select the National Executive Committee of the party on a basis not on talk but on careful examination to find out the sort of leadership that will enable us to regain the confidence of the people of Ghana.”
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Akufo-Addo
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his part urged delegates of the delegates to put sectional interests aside and unite behind efforts to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections. He said the election of new national officers was a crucial step in reorganising the party and preparing it for the next electoral contest.
According to him, the task ahead would require unity and a leadership capable of restoring the party’s fortunes from the polling station to the national level.
Nana Akufo-Addo stressed that rebuilding the NPP, would be demanding and would require commitment, time, energy and loyalty from party members.
He, however, expressed confidence that the party could return to government, drawing parallels with its electoral victories in 2000 and 2016.
“I believe, however, that with God’s guidance we will emerge victorious as we did in 2000 and 2016 and form a government under the leadership of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, that will promote the rule of law and the welfare of the ordinary people of Ghana,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo further reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP and wished delegates a successful conference, as the party elects national officers to lead its organisational activities ahead of the 2028 elections.
