Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku says artificial intelligence (AI) may be transforming industries, but it cannot replace genuine creativity in songwriting.

Speaking in an interview with entertainment journalist Joseph Owusu Worae, the award-winning musician said he has no objection to artistes using AI as a creative aid, but believes his songwriting skills are beyond what the technology can produce.

According to him, some of his biggest songs, including ‘Adie3 Bekye,’ were written long before AI became a popular tool, making him confident in the originality of his craft.

“AI is being used in so many fields, and I can’t say I don’t use it in some of the things I do. But musically, I didn’t even know AI could write songs. ‘Adie3 Bekye’ and many of my best songs came before AI. When I compare myself with AI, I’ve realised I’m a better songwriter than AI,” he said.

Ras Kuuku acknowledged that some musicians rely on AI to develop their songs, but stressed that every song in his catalogue is an original composition written entirely by him.

“If AI helps you write songs, that’s your choice. But all my songs are written from scratch by me. I’m a better songwriter than AI.”
