The footwear of Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, became an unexpected talking point during President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Friday.

The IGP’s choice of boots, reminiscent of the classic ceremonial footwear worn by officers of the British police quickly drew attention online, with many social media users praising his sharp appearance and describing him as a subtle trendsetter.

Often referred to as “police boots,” the British-style footwear is traditionally part of formal or ceremonial dress, typically worn during parades, inspections and other high-profile occasions. The IGP’s decision to pair the boots with his official attire added a distinct touch to his presence at the event.

Beyond the fashion moment, President John Mahama used his address to commend the leadership of the Police Service and acknowledge recent progress in the fight against crime.

“Mr Speaker, let me take this moment to commend the IGP and his men for the recent successes they are chalking in bringing dangerous criminals to justice,” the President said.

He noted that public confidence in the police was improving and encouraged the Service to maintain its standards.

“The trust of the Ghanaian people in their police service is rising again. And I urge you to keep up the standard,” he added.
