I won’t allow you to destabilise our peace -Akufo-Addo warns NDC

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is not happy about the brandishing of weapons by some members and supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the residence of former president John Mahama.

As the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President Akufo-Addo has assured the NDC that if the incident was a sign of what to expect in the 2024 general elections, then it would fail.

“It is my honest hope that the machetes and weapons brandished last week at the residence of the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama, are not signs of things to come in the run-up to the 2024 elections.

President Akufo-Addo addressing the congregation

“If it is, I can assure them that they will find no success with them. I want to state for the record that under my watch, no person or group of persons, no matter their political coloration, will destabilise our country nor destroy the peace that all of us are enjoying. It will not happen.”

The President said this on Sunday, November 26, 2023 when he was addressing the Victory Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at AdentanFafraha, in Accra, during the valedictory church service for the outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Rt. Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante.

The Greater Accra Youth Wing of the NDC embarked on a clean-up exercise at the residence of the party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

Videos and pictures from the cleanup showed the youth brandishing matchetes in a manner as though they were gearing up to face some attackers.

The open display of the weapons feeds into a previous statement by Mr. Mahama that no political party can match the NDC in the unleashing of violence.

Meanwhile, no casualties were recorded at the clean-up, as the group embarked on their clean-up exercise as planned.

FORTUNES

During his address,President Akufo-Addo reiterated that his government is working hard to restore the fortunes of the country.

“I want to assure you that the Akufo-Addo government is working hard to return the economy to a high rate of growth and characterise the management of the economy in the years preceding the COVID outbreak in 2020, which made the economy one of the fastest-growing in the world at the time.

“We can only do so if we forge ahead in unity and faith and have the belief that, by the grace of Almighty God, the fortunes of Ghana under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo will be restored.

“I know times have been bad, but it is clear that our economy is rebounding back, and we are turning back the corner to growth and development.”

According to him, the policies and programmes being implemented are a sure way to stabilise the country’s economy.
