Dancehall star, Shatta Wale has stated he has recorded so many songs over the years that he sometimes forgets some of his own tracks.
The Ghanaian dancehall musician explained that he records music regularly when he is in the mood, sometimes completing several songs in a single session.
“I’ve recorded a lot, and I record almost every day. It’s not like I just record for people to see that I’m recording; I record when I feel like it. I can record like five songs when I’m in the mood for it,” he said.
However, Shatta Wale said there are also periods when he stays away from music production for months, choosing instead to focus on meetings and other activities.
“Sometimes too, for like three months, I wouldn’t even go close to my computer. Those are the times you will see me driving in town, going for meetings and doing other things,” he added.
The size of his catalogue has also made it possible for him to forget some songs. Shatta Wale said that during performances, he can sometimes hear one of his older tracks and struggle to immediately remember it.
“I can perform most of the songs from years ago. Sometimes, when it’s played once and I listen, then I remember it. When it’s been a long time and it’s played, I may forget the lyrics,” he said.
He recalled that there have even been moments on stage when his DJ, Vyrusky, plays one of his songs and he has to ask who recorded it.
“Sometimes, when I’m performing on stage, Vyrusky can play a song, and I will go and ask him, ‘Whose song is that?’” Shatta Wale said during the podcast discussion with rapper YPee.
