2020 Artiste of the year, Kuami Eugene has revealed that he never expected his comments about DopeNation to become a major issue.
He had earlier criticised the kind of songs by the duo, questioning their creativity and the maturity of their songs.
According to him, what started as light-hearted banter was taken more seriously than he anticipated.
“I was expecting us to move on,” he told Kula, the Headless Youtuber in an interview.
The singer admitted he later realised the comments may have struck a sensitive nerve.
“If I knew it would get to this extent, I wouldn’t have said it in the first place,” he explained.
Despite expressing some regret, Kuami Eugene stopped short of offering an apology.
“They should calm down. I don’t hate them in any way,” he said.
When asked whether he would apologise, he replied: “I’m not even apologising. I’m just saying that they should calm down.”
He added that he would be open to sitting down with the duo in the future and discussing the matter face-to-face.
