Michelle Obama says she does not miss having her daughters at home, admitting that she is enjoying life now that she has an empty nest.
Speaking on the IMO podcast hosted with her brother Craig Robinson, the former US first lady said she loves her daughters, Malia and Sasha, but does not miss their day-to-day presence.
“I don’t miss ’em. I don’t. I love them. I’m going to see them tonight for dinner,” she told host Jon Stewart.
Michelle also recalled how differently she and her husband, former US President Barack Obama, handled their daughters leaving home for college. Malia left for Harvard University in 2017, while Sasha enrolled at the University of Southern California in 2019.
“Barack cried when they went to college. I was like, ‘Bye!’” she said.
Michelle explained that after years of spending significant time raising her daughters, she is comfortable with having more freedom over her schedule.
“I have a great schedule, and it’s all mine,” she said.
