“Everybody wants to be loved. I wanted to be loved too but not at the expense of my freedom,” popular SingerMzbel has stated that she does not consider herself overly honest, despite her reputation for openly expressing her views even when her comments attract criticism.
The ’16 years’ hitmaker said she has never wanted public acceptance at the expense of her freedom and would rather speak her mind than change herself simply to please people.
Mzbel acknowledged that criticism can hurt, but said she would not allow public opinion to dictate how she lives or what she says.
“It hurts me when people attack me. But then I will not make the sacrifice of caging myself just to be seen or just to please,” she said during an interview with KafuiDey.
She said her approach is simply to say what she believes needs to be said without deliberately trying to hurt anyone.
“I just say what I have to say when I have to say it,” she said.
Mzbel added that she does not believe people should blame her for their personal reaction to her comments.
“I’m not saying it to harm anybody. So if you take it upon yourself to get hurt, it is your choice,” she said.
Despite her reputation for being outspoken, she rejected the suggestion that she is simply “too honest”.
“I don’t think I’m too honest. I just say what I have to say when I have to say it,” she said.
