Nick Cannon has admitted that he might have approached fatherhood differently if he had taken more time to heal from past trauma, saying he sometimes treated having children as a way of dealing with unresolved issues.

The 44-year-old father of 12 made the comments during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, where he reflected on how his family grew.

Cannon said he was not deliberately planning to have 12 children but was living freely because he had the financial means and access to the relationships he wanted.

“It wasn’t like I was acting out. It was more of being careless, being frivolous with my process because I could do it, because I had the money and because I had the access,” he said.

Looking back, Cannon said he believes doing more personal healing after his divorce could have changed some of his decisions.

“If I would have did the work, the healing after getting divorced, I probably would have took my time in a lot other scenarios,” he said.

He added that he sometimes thought starting another relationship or having another child would help him move forward, but later realised that unresolved trauma was being carried into each situation.
