Two VIP JEOUN coaches were attacked by suspected armed robbers in separate incidents on the Accra-Kumasi and Kumasi-Sunyani highways in the early hours of Thursday, leaving five people injured in one of the attacks.
According to a statement issued by VIP JEOUN, the first attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on July 30, 2026, on the Accra-Kumasi Highway between Apedwa Junction, Nkronso, Akooko and Akyem Asafo.
The company said the robbers used a vehicle to block the highway, trapping three passenger coaches before opening fire on a VIP JEOUN bus travelling from Accra to Sunyani.
The driver, his mate and three passengers sustained gunshot injuries. The driver has since been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital for specialist treatment.
VIP JEOUN said police officers from Suhum in the Eastern South Region responded promptly, repelled the attackers and cleared the highway for traffic.
Barely two hours later, at about 1:00 a.m., another VIP JEOUN coach travelling from Kumasi to Sunyani was attacked by suspected armed robbers at Potrikrom.
The company said the assailants fired at the bus, damaging its windscreen. However, an armed escort on board returned fire and successfully repelled the attack before a police patrol team arrived at the scene.
No passenger was injured in the second incident.
Describing the attacks as unfortunate, VIP JEOUN reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of passengers and crew.
“VIP JEOUN values the security of passengers and crew on board and remains committed to ensuring hassle-free transportation,” the company said.
The twin attacks are likely to heighten concerns over persistent armed robbery attacks on major highways, particularly during night travel, as commuters and transport operators continue to call for enhanced security patrols.
