GRA Taskforce to revisit defaulting taxpayers

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Enforcement Taskforce will revisit defaulting taxpayers from 2022 to ensure voluntary compliance.

The Head of the Accra Central Enforcement Unit of the GRA, Assistant Commissioner Joseph Annan, announced this after arresting four errant taxpayers.

Mr. Annan warned that it would be in the best interest of those defaulting taxpayers to comply with the law else legal action would be instituted against them.

“This is to send a signal to the public that it is not a nine-day wonder thing we are doing. We are on the field, and we will continue to be on the field, and those we have not visited… we shall surely come to you, and when we come, we expect you to do the right thing.”

The taskforce arrested Eva’s Wholesale Price, Modern Floors, American Goods, and Qingsong Trading Company Limited at Kasoa Old Barrier, Bortianor, West Hills Mall, and Weija.

They were found not to have registered for tax and indulging in selective issuance of tax invoice.

They were handed over to the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for investigation.

A pre-empt assessment would also be conducted on their businesses and they would be referred to the Audit Unit of the GRA.

The defaulting taxpayers will be expected to declare and pay whatever amount they owed the government.

“We are going to the system and fish out all those who are declaring and not paying, and even those not declaring. And then the appropriate actions would be taken,” Mr. Annan warned.
