A rescue team from the Ashaiman Ghana National Fire Service,Ghana Police Service and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)saved 48-year-old Yehowa Nagbeh from attempted suicide after he climbed a 33kV transmission pylon at Adjei Kojo, near Ashaiman, in the Greater Accra Region.
According to Yehowa, he wanted to end his life because of his inability to raise money to undergo medical treatment for a kidney disease he had been diagnosed with.
After managing to convince him to remain calm on top of the pylon, the rescue team climbed a tall ladder to safely bring down a frail looking Yehowa.
After rescuing Yehowa Nagbeh, the rescue team managed to encourage him with some assuring words.
After taking a deep breath, Yehowa said, “I am battling with a kidney disease. First, I visited the Ashaiman Health Centre… Ashaiman Polyclinic, but was referred to the Tema General Hospital.
“At Tema General Hospital, they also directed me to go to UGMC. I have walked for a while now and I’m tired. I don’t know what to do. I decided to go there (UGMC), but they told me I wouldn’t be able to pay the bills. Now I am tired.”
