Fresh information emerging on the reassignment of the Western Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Marion Okoh Owusu, suggests that the decision was largely influenced by administrative concerns rather than solely political considerations as initially speculated.

Sources close to the Ghana Health Service have disclosed that the reassignment followed an investigation conducted by a committee set up by the GHS headquarters to examine petitions lodged against the regional health administration.

The committee is said to have visited Sekondi to investigate allegations of administrative lapses and management disagreements within the Western Regional Health Directorate.

According to sources familiar with the findings, the petitioners accused Dr. Okoh Owusu of sidelining some members of the regional management team and relying on a select group of officials in the administration of the directorate, contrary to established procedures and management structures within the health service.

The alleged marginalisation reportedly created divisions within the regional health administration, with some management members becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the leadership style at the directorate.
Sources indicated that the growing tension eventually led to the formation of opposing camps within the management structure, resulting in a breakdown of working relationships among key officials.
Following its investigations, the committee reportedly concluded that the situation had become detrimental to the smooth administration of health services in the region and recommended the reassignment of five senior officers.
Apart from Dr. Okoh Owusu, those affected are said to include the Deputy Regional Director, the Regional Pharmacist, the Procurement Officer and the Regional Accountant.
Information available to this reporter indicates that the committee recommended the transfers as a means of restoring harmony and improving administrative efficiency within the Western Regional Health Directorate.
The reassignment of Dr. Okoh Owusu had earlier generated speculation that the move may have been politically motivated due to perceptions that she could emerge as a potential parliamentary candidate for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency.
However, the latest information points to internal administrative challenges as a significant factor in the decision taken by the Ghana Health Service.

Dr Marion Okoh owusu confirming her reassignment wrote on Ghana Health service Whatsapp platform- “Working hard as always
however been labeled a threat in this region and the smear campaign has led to this reassignment .

Peace is better than fighting, it’s not goodbye. Cheers”.

Neither the Ghana Health Service nor the affected officers have officially commented on the findings of the committee or the reported recommendations.

The development is expected to reignite discussions about management practices and workplace relations within regional health administrations, as stakeholders await an official statement from the Ghana Health Service on the matter.
