Ghana does not have a talent problem. If anything, we are overflowing with it. From music to film, radio, digital content, comedy, and live performance, the evidence is everywhere.
Artistes like Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Gyakie, and Amaarae have all proven that Ghanaian creativity can travel and compete on the world stage. The same is true of the filmmakers, radio personalities, producers, event curators, and digital storytellers who shape culture here every single day.
So the real question is not whether we have talent. It is why talent alone is not translating into a fully structured, globally competitive creative industry.
After many years of working in media production, radio, entertainment programming, and large-scale cultural events, I have arrived at a clear and unavoidable conclusion. Ghana does not struggle with creativity. We struggle with structure. And that difference changes everything.
In our industry, success is often measured in moments. A hit song. A viral interview. A sold-out show. A performance that sets social media on fire. We celebrate loudly, and rightly so. But after the celebration, there is often very little system in place to carry that success forward.
Everything depends on individual effort, informal relationships, and sheer personal sacrifice. That works for a moment. It does not build an industry.
An industry is not defined by how many stars it produces. It is defined by how consistently it can sustain, scale and export those stars.
Talent is not the issue. Systems are. If we are honest with ourselves, Nigeria offers a clear and instructive regional comparison. Take Nollywood. Its strength is not merely talent. It is structure, volume, and distribution thinking. Thousands of films are produced annually, supported by a growing network of cinemas, streaming platforms, and international distribution pipelines.
