The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has launched efforts to arrest suspected accomplices in Ghana following the arrest of a Syrian national in Lebanon with approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine allegedly transported from Accra.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after arriving from Ghana with the suspected narcotic concealed in two pieces of luggage.
NACOC disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday that it was working to identify and apprehend the suspect’s alleged accomplices in Ghana as investigations into the international drug trafficking operation continued.
According to the Commission, the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.
The operation was designed to identify and apprehend targets at both ends of the suspected drug supply chain while gathering intelligence to dismantle what NACOC described as a broader transnational criminal syndicate behind the shipment.
The Commission said the joint exercise demonstrated the commitment of Ghanaian and Lebanese authorities to combating international drug trafficking through cross-border intelligence-sharing and operational cooperation.
Although the Syrian national has been arrested in Lebanon, NACOC’s statement did not disclose his identity, the intended destination of the suspected cocaine or whether other arrests had been made in connection with the shipment.
The Commission’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, signed the statement.
