Ghana Calls for Collaboration to Build Sustainable Future for Cashew Industry

The Minister for Food and Agriculture of Ghana, Bryan Acheampong, has emphasized the importance of collaboration in building a sustainable future for the cashew industry in Africa.

He was speaking at the 6th Ordinary Council of Ministers of the Consultative International Cashew Council (CICC) convened in Accra, last Saturday, 20th April, 2024.

Addressing Ministers from cashew-growing countries in Africa, Mr. Acheampong highlighted the significance of collective efforts in formulating and implementing effective policies to benefit farmers and stakeholders along the cashew value chain.

“As Ministers of Agriculture and Trade from cashew-growing countries in Africa, we bear the responsibility of formulating and implementing effective policies that benefit our farmers and stakeholders along the value chain

“We are obligated to provide our people with solutions to the myriad challenges facing the sector. The establishment of the CICC, aimed at fostering collaboration among cashew-producing nations to develop our respective sectors, is commendable,” Mr. Acheampong said.

Mr. Acheampong urged continued collaboration and innovation to overcome these challenges, emphasizing the need for a sustainable and resilient future for the cashew industry in Africa and beyond.

“The technical resolutions reached will soon be presented for our consideration and approval, as we collectively strive to advance the objectives of the Consultative International Cashew Council,” he added.

He expressed gratitude to partners such as GIZ/MOVE, the EU, African Cashew Alliance (ACA), Olam Foods Ingredients, Procashew, and Prosper Cashew, for their support in organizing the conference.

Coinciding with the CICC meetings, Ghana hosted its inaugural Cashew Fair under the theme “Advancing the Cashew Sector: Local Consumption, Value Addition, and Job Creation” at the Efua Sutherland Park.

This event showcased a diverse array of cashew-derived products, advocating for increased local consumption and highlighting the integral role of local consumers in fostering sustainable sectoral growth.

The event underscored critical objectives for advancing the cashew sector, including value addition, research initiatives, productivity enhancement, technology integration, and human capital development.

The meeting included the participation of distinguished research scientists and stakeholders in the cashew industry, underscoring the importance of a collective approach to drive progress and development in the sector.

The event showcased Ghana’s commitment to fostering collaboration and partnership to ensure the growth and sustainability of the cashew.
