German philanthropist donates bus to Kumasi school

The German Ghanaian School at Atwima Denchemuoso in the Kwadaso Municipality of Kumasi has received a new school bus donated by a long time friend of the school.

The 32-seater Hyundai bus, valued at €25,000, was donated to the school by Mrs. Ingvild Goetz, a German philanthropist from Munich in Germany.

The Founder of the school, Mr. Albert Osei-Wusu, who officially handed over the bus to the administration, described Mrs. Goetz, the donor, as “a very good friend of the German Ghanaian School,” who has been in the relationship with the school for over two decades.

Mr. Albert Osei-Wusu, a longtime resident of Germany, said Mrs. Goetz voluntarily took over the payment of salaries for teachers in the initial stages of the school for almost six months when she became aware of his (Osei-Wusu’s) vision to establish a school back home in Ghana.

He disclosed that Mrs. Goetz, in the earlier stages of the school, donated a carpentry machine towards the project which was used for multi-purpose works at the time, and also contributed cash towards the roofing of the school dormitory block.

The Founder also praised Mrs. Ingvild Goetz for paying for the cost of shipment of some two hundred student beds donated to him from Germany in the earlier stages of the school, and also donated a smaller bus to the school about seven years ago.

He described the philanthropist as “being instrumental to the school financially,” and added that the smaller bus was out of its capacity, because the population of the students had since increased from over a 100 students to about 250, hence the need for a bigger and stronger vehicle.

Mr. Osei-Wusu said the management of the school, students, and parents would forever be grateful to her for the bus and gave the assurance that the new bus would fulfill the intended purpose for which it was donated.

The Director of the school, Mr. Osei-Wusu Karikari, who received the keys to the bus on behalf of the school, expressed the school’s profound gratitude to Mrs. Goetz for being a dependable and consistent friend of the school for the past 23 years.

Director Osei-Wusu said the dream was to avoid overloading the students in a bus, and also convey them to school on time, and that the bigger bus was very handy.
