The Circuit Court 9, Accra, has remanded a 40-year-old fine artist, Faisal Ali, into police custody for allegedly possessing a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority. Ali, a resident of Macedonia, Amasaman, is facing a charge of possession of arms and ammunition contrary to Section 192 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
When the case came before the court, presided over by His Honour Joseph Yennuban Kunsong on Tuesday, the police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Ramata Asumah, urged the court not to take the accused’s plea.
Counsel for Ali subsequently prayed the court to admit his client to bail. However, the court declined the bail application and remanded Ali into police custody. He is expected to reappear before the court on September 11, 2026.The prosecution told the court that the complainant in the case was the Ghana Police Service.
According to the brief facts, on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the National Operations Directorate (NOD) at the National Police Headquarters received a distress call that Ali, together with others, was allegedly in possession of arms and ammunition and was terrorising residents and developers at Katapor, Pokuase.
Following the report, a team from the NOD was dispatched to the area to contain the situation. The prosecution said that upon arrival at the scene, the police found that residents had managed to overpower Ali, who was alleged to have threatened to discharge a pistol at a group of people developing a parcel of land.
The police subsequently retrieved a black Bruni Mod pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition from a brown leather side bag allegedly in the possession of Ali. Ali was arrested and taken to the National Police Headquarters to assist with investigations.
The prosecution said that during interrogation, Ali denied ownership of the black Bruni Mod pistol and the four rounds of ammunition. He was subsequently charged with possession of arms and ammunition and arraigned before the Circuit Court. The court, after declining his bail application, remanded him into police custody pending further proceedings.
