The media consultant and Head of Corporate Affairs at the Tobinco Group of Companies, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has been elected the new Ghana Journalists Association President.
He defeated stalwart competitors like the Editor of the Ghanaian Times and former General Secretary of the GJA, Dave Agbenu and Gayheart Edem Mensah, a journalist and communication consultant.
Over 800 members of the GJA cast their ballots today, June 24, 2022, to elect the new national and regional executives.
Albert Dwumfuor polled 233 votes, Gayheart Mensah got 181 votes and Dave Agbenu had 142 votes.
The Vice-President position was contested solely by the incumbent, Linda Asante Agyei while Audrey Dekalu also went unopposed for the Treasurer position.
Kofi Yeboah was elected the General Secretary, beating a new entrant; Akwasi Agyemang of Adom FM.
New entrant Dominic Hlordzi of GBC won the National Organising Secretary race, beating long-time crime reporter and current Foreign and Supplements Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mary Mensah.
The election was, however, not without controversy as some members of the association in good standing could not cast their votes as they could not find their names in the register.
Albert Kwabena Dwumfour in his victory speech shortly after the results were released disclosed that his administration will actively engage all stakeholders for the good of Journalism.
He has therefore call on all and sundry to respectfully come on board and support him to push the association forward.

I hope GJA engages in good practices and investigating Journalism to expose corruption and help good governance. So far what I see in Ghana journalism is lack is depth of knowledge and intelligence. You are so stupid.
I was watching an interview by Joy news with a Nigerian rep about immigration and the interviewer did not even know that mass migration to Ghana by Nigerians is illegal under international law and the strain on Ghana’s economy. He did not appear to have knowledge about migration al all.
Poland cannot accommodate 2 million Ukrainians even though there is war in Ukraine and Poland is doing well. Ghana is struggling and yet 4 to 5 million Nigerians are moving to live in Ghana everyday and you do not questioning the government.
Just see the level of crime and what economic struggles Ghana is going through due to that.
UK left the EU due to immigration with less than 2 million migration into UK. Remember UK is a rich country and yet cannot accommodate this level of migration.
You have a significant role to play if Ghana is to move forward. Hold the government to account with policies. NDC cannot stage sugar production in Ghana when actually the sugar displayed on TV was imported to lie to Ghanaians.
