Draw inspiration from J.B. Danquah’s life -Kingsley Agyemang

The Parliamentary Candidate for the Abuakwa South Constituency, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has urged students to draw inspiration from the life of the late Joseph Boakye Danquah.

He also urged the students to carry the profound lessons from Danquah’s life and turn them into actions that propel Ghana forward with resilience, unity and steadfast commitment to progress.

According to him, the founding member of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) lived a life of integrity, strength, resolve and independence.

“As students, we need these qualities if we aspire to be the next J.B. Danquah, Akufo-Addo, William Ofori Atta, Paa Grant and other great men this country has produced,” he remarked.

The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, gave this advice to Senior High school students in the Abuakwa South constituency on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

The day, which marked the final funeral rite of J.B. Danquah in Kyebi, after 58 years of his demise, also saw the finals of the Kingsley Inter-High School debate competition take place in Kyebi.

DEVOTED

He said a large part of Dr. J.B. Danquah’s life was devoted to serving Ghana and his teachings have had and continue to have an impact on Ghana’s democracy.

The founder of Kingsley Quizzes, Kingsley Agyemang, urged the students to unleash the hero in them by becoming each other’s keeper and exhibiting the simplest acts of kindness, empathy and solidarity.

IDEOLOGY

He recalled that Dr. J.B. Danquah resorted to an assertive and methodological approach to the struggle for recognition of African abilities, always honouring the gains of the rule of law.

Emphasising that peace was his hallmark, Kingsley Agyemang added that the contributions of J.B. Danquah spanned various fields including law, academia, journalism and politics, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s trajectory.

He continued that, “one of Dr. Danquah’s most significant ideological contributions was his fervent belief in the principles of democracy, freedom and self-determination. He understood that true sovereignty could only be achieved through the empowerment of the people and the establishment of democratic institutions.

“Dr. Danquah tirelessly campaigned for the rights of Ghanaians to govern themselves, challenging the colonial authorities and advocating for constitutional reform.”

DEBATE

The debate was on the motion: J.B. Danquah’s Ideological contributions have played a defining role in shaping the socio-political and cultural landscape of Ghana.

Kibi Senior High Technical School was for the motion and Abuakwa State College was against it. Both schools raised cogent arguments, but at the end of the contest, Kibi Senior High Technical School was adjudged the winner. It was the second victory for the school. They won the first edition in 2023.

In his keynote address, Kingsley Agyemang stated that the motion was not a mere intellectual exercise but a reflection on the enduring legacy of J.B. Danquah.

He opined that his “ideological contributions have shaped our past and continue to guide our future journey.”

APPRECIATION

Moving forward, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang assured the good people of Abuakwa South that the Kingsley Quizzes and other interventions have come to stay.

“I am determined to carry all these interventions to the letter and ensure everyone benefits. We will not leave anyone behind,” he added.

He ceased the opportunity to thank the people of Abuakwa South, especially the delegates, for overwhelmingly voting for him as the parliamentary candidate for this great constituency.
