The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, demonstrated on Saturday demonstrated that he was indeed a grassroots man after he was declared the winner in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primaries in the Eastern Region.
The Vice President, who was declared the winner in the Presidential Primary, which was held concurrently across the country, recorded a commanding 65.66% of the total votes cast in the Eastern Region.
Giving the breakdown of the election from all 33 constituencies, the Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission’s (EC), Madam Faith Amedzake, indicated that there were a total of 20,388 votes cast, with 20,305 and 83 valid and rejected votes, respectively.
Out of the total, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong recorded 6,794 votes, which represents 33.32%. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia garnered 13,387 votes, representing an impressive 65.66%; Owusu Afriyie Akoto had 57 votes, making up 0.28% of the vote; and Francis Addai Nimo garnered 67 votes, which is equivalent to 0.33%.
Dr. Bawumia’s landslide victory in the Eastern Region underscores his strong appeal and resonating vision among NPP members in this crucial electoral stronghold.
