Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has denied claims that he sent flirtatious Instagram messages to a young South African woman, describing screenshots shared online as fake.

The singer, who married Chioma Rowland in Miami in August 2025, addressed the allegations on X on Thursday, 20 August 2026, after the messages sparked discussion across social media.

The controversy began after a South African woman, identified as Lethabo, allegedly shared direct messages she said were sent to her by Davido. The messages reportedly contained compliments about her appearance and appeared flirtatious. They quickly circulated online, with some social media users questioning the singer over the alleged exchange.

Davido responded by challenging the authenticity of the screenshots and sharing what he said was evidence of how messages from his verified Instagram business account should appear. He pointed to details on the account, including its 30 million followers, 580 posts and a message stating that he “typically replies within minutes”. He argued that the alleged screenshots did not match the layout of Instagram’s business chat system.

“It’s adults really believing that the screenshots are real. This is how the messages pane should look like. Check the differences,” Davido wrote. He also dismissed the person behind the allegations as “a teenager fishing for attention online”, adding that people were being too quick to believe the claims.
