Nigerian Afrobeats singer Davido has asserted that his hit song, ‘Dami Duro’released in 2012 was the ringtone of the then-president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Davido disclosed that a source close to the President revealed to him.

The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker in a recent interview with Power FM in the United States opened up on his challenges with his father who did not approve of his decision to be a musician at the early stages of his career.

Legally known as David Adeleke, Davido explained that his father, Deji Adeleke later supported him after ‘Dami Duro’ received presidential accolades.

“My dad accepted my decision to do music after he heard my second single, ‘Dami Duro.’ The song blew up.

“Before then, my dad was using the police and army to stop my show and arrest show promoters, artistes, and everyone connected to any show I am billed to perform in. But when ‘Dami Duro’ became a huge success… I think it was the President’s ringtone. Someone told me. At that point, people started advising my dad to allow me to do music,” he said on April 8, 2025.

Davido further shared how he eventually decided to fulfill his father’s wish for him – to continue his education.

Davido added that he and his father are now best friends, quite a contrast to the past, when he used to be afraid of him.
