Court reinstates sacked Taraba PDP acting chairman

The Taraba State High Court sitting in Jalingo, the state capital, has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the sacked acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Alhaji Inuwa Bakari.

The judgement which was presided over by Justice Nuhu Adi granted all the prayers of the reinstated acting chairman of the party.

Bakari was removed by the former governor of the state, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, and replaced by the former Special Adviser to Ishaku, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa.

Not comfortable with the former governor’s decision, Bakari asked the court to nullify Bawa’s appointment as due processes as enacted in the party’s constitution were not followed.

In the ruling, which lasted several hours, the judge who described the appointment of Bawa as “unconstitutional” ordered the immediate reinstatement of Bakari.

While directing Bakari to immediately resume office as the party’s acting chairman, he asked Bawa to desist from going about parading himself as the party’s chairman.

Elated by the judgement, Bakari, who promised to resume office as directed by the court, urged the party’s faithful to remain calm and eschew acts capable of igniting crisis.

Also speaking, his counsel, Barrister John Okezie, lauded the efforts of the judge, saying he had inserted the right peg in the right hike.

The sacked chairman said he would have to rub minds with his counsel before arriving at the next steps to take.

The judgement is coming barely a few days after the state government set up a committee to resolve the ongoing leadership tussle in the party.
