Tottenham are expecting Antonio Conte to arrive back in England following gallbladder surgery today to provide the club with a huge boost ahead of the weekend clash versus Leicester.
Spurs, who are set to be without goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for around six weeks, were without their head coach for much of last week and Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City as he recuperated from the operation in Turin.
There was hope that Conte could return by Monday, but it is understood the 53-year-old is scheduled to return to the UK on Wednesday.
But there is now hope that he will be able to take his place in the dugout at Leicester. The Spurs captain picked up a knee injury in the win over Pep Guardiola’s side and could now be out until early April.
Lloris is now set to miss a large chunk of Tottenham’s crucial games including both legs of their Champions League last-16 clash with AC Milan.
The 36-year-old sustained ligament damage during the match although it is not thought at this stage that he will need an operation.
Antonio Conte will now likely turn to reserve keeper Fraser Forster, who has been the back-up keeper to the Frenchman this season.
