The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that the construction of stalled major road projects under the previous administration would soon resume with funding from the 2026 national budget.
The Minister told newsmen that contractors have now been resourced to return to critical sites for the completion of these legacy projects. He cited the lack of dedicated funding as the primary cause for the delays and explained that the government now had mechanisms to provide necessary liquidity to contractors.
Projects mentioned for immediate action include the Bekwai Roundabout – Santase roundabout dual carriageway by China Geo contractor. The Minister confirmed that funds have been released this month, and that the contractor was mobilising to be on site by next week.
He said work on the Abuakwa – Mankranso portion of the Phase 2 of the Kumasi-Sunyani road, is scheduled to begin next week.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized prioritizing the severely deteriorated stretch from Mukpa to Mankranso to ease commuter discomfort. He also mentioned other notable projects to be considered under the 2026 budget as the Sewua Regional Hospital road, the Suame Interchange, and the Santase-Anwiankwanta dual carriage road.
