CJ Torkonoo gladdens hearts of JUSAG members

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has lauded Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo for considering the implementation of their reviewed salaries, which take effect this month.

In a news release dated July 17, 2023 Samuel Afotey, National President of JUSAG, expressed contentment to a letter addressed to the Association by Chief Justice Torkornoo, dated July 13, 2023 confirming President Akufo-Addo’s approval of their new salary structure.

“We are further gratified by the commitment of the Honourable Chief Justice to see to the passage into law of a Judicial Service Regulation (Constitutional Instrument), in accordance with Article 158(2), 159 and the case of JUSAG vs The Attorney General & 2 Others (2016).

“We hope that comprehensive work on the CI will bring an end to the biennial strikes associated with salary reviews,” he stated.

Mr. Afotey reiterated the National Executive Council (NEC) of JUSAG’s heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Justice for the good start and to the immediate former Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah, for his efforts.

He assured the CJ of their willingness to work with her and the management to rebrand the Judicial Service and build upon the successes chalked by the Judiciary and the Judicial Service over the years.

JUSAG had been battling with the government over the review of their salaries and related allowances for staff of Judicial Service and the Lower Bench.
