The Akyem Abomosu community in Akyem Abuakwa in the Eastern Region was over the weekend thrown into a state of mourning and solemn reflection when the mortal remains of the late Mr Alexander Ayim Ohene, affectionately known as Kwame Alex, father of Diane Ohene Coomson, wife of The Chronicle publisher, Nana Kofi Coomson, were laid in state for family members, friends and loved ones to pay their last respects.
The deceased, whose life was marked by devout Christianity, entrepreneurship, a love for sports and academic excellence, was honoured by hundreds of mourners who thronged his residence, clad in black apparel, to file past his remains amid dirges, hymns and traditional tunes, symbolising the fall of a great oak tree in the Abomosu community.
At a burial service held at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana – Prince of Peace Congregation, Akyem Abomosu, and officiated by fourteen ministers of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana under the leadership of Rev. Kingsford Kusi Kyere, District Minister for Abomosu, tributes were read in honour of the nonagenarian.
Among the clergy present were Very Rev. Dr Sam Prempeh, Past Moderator of the Church, and Rev. (Rtd.) Ansa Peasah, former Chairman of the AAP, Begoro.
Tributes from his children, siblings, in-laws and other relatives celebrated the life of the deceased, who was a devoted member of the Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church in Abomosu and whose unwavering commitment to the Christian faith earned him the admiration of many within and beyond the church community.
The late Kwame Alex was eulogised as a man of deep faith, devout Christian values and unwavering love for his family, whose life touched many people and left behind a legacy worth celebrating.
In a tribute, the wife of the late Kwame Alex, Mrs. Margaret Amma Dakoa Ohene, described her husband as well-organised and exceptionally tidy. Their children also paid glowing tribute to their late father, describing him as a devout Christian whose home bore the name “Nyame Te Ase” (God Lives). They noted that their father always wore a smile, a trait they said they had inherited from him.
The bereaved family further described him as a man of deep wisdom and discernment, who could often foresee events before they occurred. They said his life of faith, humility and service would continue to inspire future generations.
