Nana Osei Kofi, the Chief of Sabin Akrofrom in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, has supported two students living with disabilities who participated in the Otumfuo Reading Competition with a cash donation of GH¢5,000 and a tablet each.
The donation, according to the Chief, is to encourage the students to continue pursuing excellence in education despite their physical challenges and to motivate other children with disabilities to take reading and learning seriously.
The two students distinguished themselves during the Otumfuo Reading Competition, an initiative by His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to promote reading culture and improve literacy among pupils in the Asante Kingdom.
Speaking at a short presentation ceremony at his palace, Nana Osei Kofi said he was touched by the courage, confidence and brilliance exhibited by the students on stage during the competition. According to him, the children have shown that disability is not inability as they competed with others and proved that they are equally capable hence the need to celebrate and support them.
He noted that supporting inclusive education remains a priority for his leadership and aligns with Otumfuo’s vision of ensuring that no child is left behind in education. Nana Osei Kofi added that the tablets will help the students with their studies, research and access to learning materials, while the cash will support their educational needs.
He called on parents, teachers and other stakeholders to give special attention to children with disabilities and invest in their education.
Parents of the beneficiaries, who were present at the ceremony, expressed profound gratitude to the Sabin Akrofrom Chief for his kind gesture, describing it as timely and life-changing.
