Former Tema West Member of Parliament, Carlos Ahenkorah, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ahead of the party’s upcoming national executive elections.

In a statement issued in Accra, on Sunday, Mr Ahenkorah said his decision followed what he described as extensive consultations with party grassroots members, constituency and regional executives, as well as party elders across the country.

According to him, the NPP requires a stronger and more transparent financial management system, as it reorganises and prepares for the 2028 general elections.

He stressed that effective financial administration would be critical to rebuilding the party and strengthening operations at the constituency and polling station levels.

“Every cedi that comes in and goes out must be accounted for,” Mr Ahenkorah stated, adding that resources must reach the grassroots promptly to support mobilisation, constituency activities, and election-day operations.

The former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry pledged to promote accountability and discipline in the management of party funds if elected.

He also promised to expand the party’s fundraising base and ensure equitable allocation of resources across all levels of the party structure.

The former Tema West Member of Parliament noted that his experience in public office, including managing budgets as both a legislator and deputy minister, had equipped him with the expertise needed for the position.

Mr Ahenkorah further appealed to delegates to support his candidature, arguing that a financially stable and united NPP would be better positioned to regain public confidence and return to power in 2028.

The NPP is expected to hold its national executive elections later this year, as the party begins preparations toward the next general election cycle.
