The Paramount Queen Mother of Cape Coast, Nana Ekua Abookye VI, has called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of a student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The Queen Mother, in a statement issued on Tuesday, expressed shock and sadness over the incident, which has sparked concern among residents and members of the university community.

She joined growing calls from opinion leaders and the public for law enforcement authorities to intensify investigations into the case, leading to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

Nana Ekua Abookye VI assured residents and visitors that Cape Coast remains a peaceful and welcoming city despite the unfortunate incident. She, however, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the work of security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and activities within their communities.

According to her, residents should pay particular attention to activities in neighbourhoods, beaches, hotels, drinking spots and other public places to help prevent crime and enhance public safety.

The Queen Mother also expressed confidence in the ability of traditional authorities to collaborate with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders to strengthen security in the Central Region, particularly in Cape Coast.

She noted that Cape Coast remains one of Ghana’s leading tourist destinations, attracting thousands of local and foreign visitors annually, and therefore maintaining peace and security is critical to the city’s development and reputation.

Nana Ekua Abookye VI extended her condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the security agencies to carry out their investigations professionally.

The murder of the UCC student has generated widespread public concern, with many residents and stakeholders calling for swift action to ensure justice is served and public confidence in security is maintained.
