CAF Champions League: Medeama thumped by record holders Al Ahly

Medeama Sporting Club was thumped 3-0 by the holders Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage opener on Saturday, November 25 in Cairo. The Egyptian giants had to work hard for the victory, as Medeama kept them at bay in the first half which ended goalless.

However, after an hour of play, the inexperience of Evans Adotey’s side became glaring as the 11-time record holders found a 66th-minute opener by Kahraba, followed by Hussein El Shatat’s strike in the 75th minute, and Salah Mohsen sealed the emphatic victory in the 88th minute at the Al-Salam Stadium.

The win takes Al Ahly to the top of Group D, level on points with second-placed CR Belouizdad of Algeria who beat Young Africans of Tanzania three nil.

Medeama will host second-placed CR Belouizdad in their second game on Friday, December 1.

In the night’s other games, Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy got a historic win in the competition edging Moroccan giants, Wydad AC 1-0 in their Group B encounter.

Ivorian giants, Asec Mimosas managed to salvage a point away from home when they drew one all against Simba AC of Tanzania.

ES Tunis beat local rivals ES Sahel 2-0 to go top of Group C in Tunisia, before Angola’s Petro de Luanda registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sudanese side, Al-Hilal in a fixture played in Luanda to join ES Tunis at the top with three points.
