A 53-year-old businessman, Amadou Mohammed, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢400,000 by the Achimota Circuit Court over an alleged US$3.5 million fraud involving a proposed investment partnership in Nigeria.

Mohammed is accused of defrauding Mukhtar Haliru Tambuwal of US$3.5 million in 2022 through a false representation that he could arrange the transfer of a US$400 million investment fund to Nigeria for a partnership business.

He has been charged with defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The charge sheet alleges that Mohammed, while in Accra in the Greater Accra Region, induced Tambuwal to part with the money by representing that the funds would be shipped to Nigeria to facilitate the proposed business partnership.

According to the prosecution’s case as outlined in the charge, Mohammed allegedly knew the representation to be false at the time he made it but proceeded to obtain the money from Tambuwal. Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court, presided over by Her Honour Mrs Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢400,000, with two sureties to be justified with landed property. The case has been adjourned to November 24, 2026, for further proceedings.
