Bugri Naabu blows cover of COPs Asare, Mensah

The former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has confirmed that he recorded the leaked audio revealing a clandestine plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office.

Bugri Naabu, while defending his recording of the conversation, mentioned that Commander Asare was the person who had the discussion with him about IGP Dampare.

Naabu also mentioned COP Mensah and Superintendent Gyebi.

According to him, for the purposes of evidence and to capture every detail of the sensitive discussion and present it to the attention of the President, the best option was to record it.

“The reason for recording this tape is that they are coming to tell me to go and tell the President something that they know they are saying, and it is either I don’t go to tell the President and then I and my party suffer for it, or if I also go to talk to the President, it is good to tell him the right thing, and since I cannot keep everything they were telling me at that point, it was very good to record and I know the President, that if I go and tell him something and it turns out not to be true, next time he won’t give me respect,” he said.

Bugri Naa,who appeared before the Committee on Monday, August 28, 2023 confirmed the veracity of the audio and named one Commander Asare as the person who visited him at his office to have the discussion about the IGP.

IGP PLOT

A member of the Council of Elders of the NPP, Bugri Naabu, informed the Committee that the senior officers were agitating about Dampare’s continuous stay as IGP.

He understood from the conversation that COP Mensah was a preferred candidate for the IGP slot and thus, they wanted Bugri Naabu to use his influence to persuade the President to appoint him.

Superintendent Gyebi was to follow Naabu to meet President Akufo-Addo to present their case, as Commander Asare, who assigned Gyebi, said he was out of town.

Bugri Naabu said he was alarmed to hear that the IGP constantly speaks with President Mahama, who had even promised to maintain him if he wins.

CHILLS

He revealed he had chills all over his body over information that threatened the agenda of the NPP to break the eight.

According to him, his anus shook, when he heard that the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, could orchestrate the electoral defeat of the party.

“He even told me that in this Assin North election, if we allow IGP to go there, we will lose the election and I became scared. The IGP doesn’t go there to vote, but if he can go there and we will lose the election, then my anus was shaking,” he told the Parliamentary Committee probing the leaked audio.

He said the senior police officer claimed that the current IGP was in bed with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, he did his checks in the police hierarchy to corroborate the information he had about the IGP, but a member of the Police Council and other key officers debunked the accusations.

WHO LEAKED IT?

Meanwhile, Bugri Naabu, who admitted to hiring people to record, is looking for the person who leaked the audio. He claims that he presented the audio to the president after it had been played in the media and wondered how it got out.

He further told the committee that he called Commander Asare and asked about the leakage, but the latter banged the phone on him and sent “me a text that he will deal with me. He threatened me!”

The seven-member parliamentary committee, chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea, is probing the leaked audio that discussed IGP Dampare and the chances of the NPP maintaining or losing power.
