The people of Nyamedam and Kweikrom, both in the Central Region of Ghana, are full of joy for having access to safe drinking water. The joy followed the hard work and benevolence of a Blogger and KJM Foundation respectively.
Kobby Kyei, the Blogger, had visited these villages in January, and reported on their plight, which got the attention of the Foundation to quickly offer solutions.
These communities, Nyamedam and Kweikrom, can be located within the Agona West and Gomoa East municipalities in that order.
TRIP TO NYAMEDAM
On Saturday, February 25, 2023 the Blogger and the Foundation made a trip to Nyamedam, off the Swedru-Agona-Nsabaa road, to commission a mechanised bore hole constructed by the KJM.
Entering the village, surrounded by 14 others, including Nyame Nti, farming was what one could guess as the main occupation.
Their main problem, however, is the lack of potable water and were happy the blogger aid partner had come to their aid.
COMMISSIONING AT NYAMEDAM
At a brief ceremony to commission the mechanised borehole for the Nyamedam community, the Queenmother, Nana Frankie Amafoa, commended Kobby Kyei and the KJM Foundation for the show of love and support to the community.
She assured the donors that as the Queenmother, she would ensure that the facility was well maintained.
She ceased the opportunity to also appeal for a kindergarten to cater for children when their mothers go to farm.
AT KWEIKROM
On the same day, the team moved to Kweikrom, from Nyamedam, to commission theirs. The people of Kweikrom in the Gomoa East Municipality, who had waited with bated breath for the team to arrive, could not hide their joy at the sight of the entourage.
At the time the team arrived in the late afternoon of Saturday, several buckets and bowls had already been brought to the water facility.
The happy residents were only waiting for the mechanised borehole to be officially opened so they could fetch water for their home chores.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, Abusuapanyin David Quaye, aged 80, told the story of how her mother nearly gave birth to him at the stream because she had to wait for a long time for water.
He said that the only source of water in the community could be dried up for days and the community would have to live with it, till it rains.
Describing the mechanised borehole as a huge relief, he further told the donors how others, including politicians, had promised them same facility, but never returned to fulfil it.
He prayed for God’s blessings for Kobby Kyei, the Blogger for highlighting the issue, and to KJM Foundation for giving the aid.
KJM FOUNDATION
Addressing the two communities separately, Dr. Emmanuel Kojo Jones-Mensah, Founder, KJM Foundation, urged them to take proper care of the water, considering the amount of money that had been invested and the purpose it had to serve.
He further urged the communities to come together to find solutions to their problems, including seeking help from people in the rural areas.
He argued that, if there is a problem they could not solve themselves but fail to call for help, the issue would live with them forever. But if they manage to reach out to about ten people, maybe one or two would come to their aid.
Dr. Jones said his foundation had offered water, educational and health assistance to several communities across the country, with the help of partners.
However, for the water projects at Nyamedam and Kweikrom, Tamara Simmons from Crenshaw Care Foundation supported.
He commended Kobby Kyei for visiting communities to bring out their issues for attention.
KOBBY KYEI
The Blogger, Kobby Kyei, who calls himself the ‘generational thinker’, was happy that through his style of blogging two communities could boast of safe drinking water.
He encouraged social media users to use their platform to effect change in society and not to waste their skills.
