The Electoral Commission of Ghana has declared the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate-Elect for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He won with 61% of the total valid votes cast in the presidential primary today.
The Director of Electoral Services, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, made the declaration at the Ohene Djan sports stadium in Accra.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia garnered 118,210 votes to win the primary. The close contender is Ken Agyapong, who had 71,996, representing 37.41%.
The third person is the former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who had 1,459 votes, representing 0.76%.
The fourth person, Francis Addai-Nimoh, managed 781.
The EC said total votes cast were 193,346; total valid votes were 192,446, and rejected votes were 900.
