Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially begun a nationwide grassroots campaign, launching a 276-constituency tour aimed at securing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

In a statement signed by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director for the Bawumia Campaign, the team announced that the nationwide tour will commence on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 marking the formal start of Dr. Bawumia’s bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

The ambitious initiative, described by the campaign as a “constituency-by-constituency engagement,” seeks to connect directly with the party’s grassroots.

It is designed to enable Dr. Bawumia to engage with key stakeholders, including Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, current and former Constituency Executives, former Members of Parliament, former MMDCEs, Patrons and the Council of Elders.

According to the statement, the tour underscores Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to “listening, building consensus and strengthening the party’s foundation from the ground up.”

The campaign team noted that the former Vice President is determined to share his vision and rally support for a united NPP capable of securing a resounding victory in the next general election.

The launch of the nationwide tour was accompanied by a strong call for discipline and civility among party members.

The Bawumia campaign expressed “growing concern” over the rising trend of political communication within the NPP that has, in its view, “devolved into personal insults, unsubstantiated attacks and the denigration of individuals.”

In an explicit directive, the campaign ordered all its communicators, supporters, and volunteers to refrain from engaging in or promoting such conduct.

The team issued a “firm and unequivocal directive” urging members to “cease and desist from any form of direct or indirect insults, derogatory remarks and personal attacks against any other aspirant, their families, or their supporters.”

Instead, the campaign encouraged all its communicators to focus on verifiable facts, policies and competence.

“Our focus must remain on promoting Dr. Bawumia’s vision, proven track record and policy propositions,” the statement read, adding that discussions should be grounded in “comparative analysis of ideas rather than sentiment, emotion, or character assassination.”

The campaign’s message emphasised that the NPP’s internal contest must reflect the party’s values of respect and integrity.

“Such conduct is not in the spirit of the NPP,” the statement said, referring to the growing hostility within internal communications. The campaign team urged that all engagement be guided by truth, decency, and discipline, reinforcing its belief that the strength of the NPP lies in its unity.

“We believe in the superiority of Dr. Bawumia’s message and his vision for our party and nation,” the statement noted, expressing confidence that delegates would respond positively to a campaign grounded in ideas and issues.

Dr. Bawumia’s constituency-by-constituency strategy is being viewed as a critical step in consolidating his support across the country.

The tour, which will take him through all 276 constituencies, is designed to mobilize the party’s rank and file from polling stations to regional structures and to ensure that every segment of the party feels directly engaged in the process.

According to the campaign, the former Vice President’s focus on grassroots engagement represents a departure from the traditional top-down approach, ensuring that the base of the party remains energized and united.

By prioritising personal interaction with key party members, Dr. Bawumia seeks to reinforce his message of inclusivity and collective ownership of the NPP’s future.
