Bawa Rock Limited, a gold trading company in Obuasi, has thrown a lifeline to victims of last week’s fire disaster that destroyed the entire Obuasi Town Hall building, by donating an amount of GH¢1.5 million, 65 industrial sewing machines and 110 Butterfly-branded sewing machines to them.
The apprentices will receive the Butterfly-branded sewing machines, while the Master Craft Persons will share the industrial machines, with the GH¢1.5 million to be distributed among them and the owners of 30 shops and 10 container shops around the Town Hall, who also lost textiles and other valuable items in the fire.
The Obuasi MCE, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, said at the presentation ceremony that following the fire disaster, she realised that the Municipal Assembly alone could not provide everything for the victims; hence she appealed to the general public for support.
She expressed profound appreciation to Bawa Rock Limited for the support and called on the Obuasi community and beyond to come to the aid of the victims.
The MCE hinted that the Assembly is making preparations to build a new magnificent Town Hall to replace the burnt one.
She assured that any donation that comes to the victims will be made public so that no one will be in doubt as to the use of such donations.
Mr. Eric Addae Boateng, Business Development and Sustainability Manager of Bawa Rock Limited, on his part, said the management of the company was shocked by the fire incident and decided to do everything possible to bring back smiles to the faces of the victims, hence the donation.
He passionately appealed to various companies in Obuasi and beyond to also come to the aid of the victims.
Mrs. Helena Mensah, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the MCE and Bawa Rock Limited in particular for coming to their aid.
