Basketball: Team Ghana to participate in Giants of Africa Festival

A team of young Ghanaian basketball players is set to be selected to represent the nation at the upcoming Giants of Africa (GOA) Basketball Festival.

The week long festival that celebrates the talents of the next generation of African basketball players suns from August 19 to August 19 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.

Team Ghana will be up of players (male and female) drafted from various basketball academies including DC Dynamics in the country.

Teams from 15 other nations including Nigeria, Senegal, South Sudan and Kenya are expected to participate in the festival.

This comes on the back of Ghana participating in the FIBA Africa Under 16 Zone 3 Championship qualifiers; Ghana missed out on qualifying to the main competition in Tunisia but it marked the first time the country the international tournament.

The festival coincides with GOA’s 20th anniversary celebrations following its creation to give more opportunities to individuals on the African continent through basketball.

Nigerian James Nnaji is a product of the Giants of Africa program and was drafted 31st overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Masai Ujiri, President of NBA outfit Toronto Raptors, is the founder of the Giants of Africa program and has organized basketball camps across the several African countries for over a decade.
