Ayanfurihene raises alarm over collection, disbursement of mineral royalties

The Chief of Ayanfuri, Odeneho Kwasi Peprah II, has raised suspicion about malfeasance in collection and disbursement of mineral royalties by the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands.

In September, this year, Chief of Ayanfuri, in the Central region, requested the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands to furnish him with a statement of accounts of all revenue accrued from mining operations of Perseus Mining Company at Ayanfuri.

He asked to be furnished with a statement of accounts of all revenue accrued from mining operations of Perseus Mining Company at Ayanfuri.

The Chief has also demanded the Ayanfuri Stool share of the accumulated mineral royalties to enable him embark on development projects for the community.

The Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands has still not obliged with the request of the Ayanfurihene, three months after he demanded a statement of accounts of all revenue accrued from mining at Ayanfuri and payment of accumulated mineral royalties to the Ayanfuri stool.

Odeneho Kwasi Peprah II, in a reminder, dated November 23, 2023 to the Regional officer of the Administrator of Stool lands at Cape Coast emphasised that the inability of the office of the Administrator of Stool Lands to provide him with a statement of accounts is a breach of the Right to Information Act.

The petition was also copied to Administrator of Stool Lands, President and Registrar of the National House of Chiefs, Acting President of the Denkyira Traditional Council, the Divisional Police Commander, Dunkwa and the District Chief Executive of Upper Denkyira West Assembly.

The Chief further said the inability of The Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands to furnish him with a statement of accounts of all revenue accrued from mining operations of Perseus Mining Company raises serious suspicion of malfeasance in the collection and disbursement of mineral royalties.

The Chief, therefore, reiterated his demand for the said statement of account within 30 days of the reminder, to prove the honesty and integrity of the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands.
